Kabir Ki Kashi

Kabir Das, a mystical poet and great Saint of India, was born in the year 1440 and died in the year 1518 and was a towering figure in the Bhakti Movement. The Bhakti Movement challenged dogmatic ritualism and laid the path where simple devotion can reach salvation.  The word Kabir means Great. It is considered that he got all his spiritual training from his Guru, Ramananda, during his early childhood. One day, he became a well-known disciple of the Guru Ramananda  There is no clue of the birth parent of the Kabir Das but he that he was cared by a Muslim family who found him as an infant in Lehartara, a small town near Varanasi. His foster parents Neeru and Nima belonged to a traditional weaver community.  His parents were extremely poor and uneducated but they adopted the little baby and trained him in their own business. Kabir lived the balanced life of a simple householder carrying out the weaving trade and a mystic spreading the message of love to mankind.

Kabir is most well known for his Dohas. These Dohas are verses which have a philosophical message attached to them. These verses are well known for their use of analogies relating to daily life situations. These analogies help to convey philosophical messages to the masses in a lucid manner. Thus, this experience helps one to connect with the works and teachings of Kabir at a more subtle level and understand its universality.
